The Security Industry Authority

The Private Security Industry in the United Kingdom has radically changed over the last two years. The changes are for the better, as the Security Industry Authority (SIA) raises standards and drives out businesses which are not legitimate.

You should be aware of the implications of the introduction of licensing for contracted-in Security Officers.

Since March 2006 all contract Security Officers, Door Supervisors, Wheel Clampers, Public Space CCTV Operators, their Supervisors, Managers and Company Directors must hold an SIA Licence.

At present it is a criminal offence to work in England and Wales without a Licence and can mean a £5,000.00 fine or up to six months in prison for breaking the regulations.

Work is under way to include Scotland and Northern Ireland in the near future.

All our staff hold full Security Industry Authority (SIA) licences and undergo a comprehensive and continuing training programme and Alpha K9 is currently working towards the SIA's own Approved Contractor Scheme (ACS).
